The rules in short

Entry and teams

• The entry fee is NOK 200 per person.
• Enter through the FishComp app. Entry closes Saturday 22 August at 12.00.
• Everyone fishes in teams. A team is 1–3 people, and you may enter alone as your own team.
• If one or more team members are under 16, the team may have 4 people.
• Teams must stay together — same boat or the same quay/jetty.
• There will be prizes for best team, longest fish and heaviest fish. In addition there is a main prize draw: every team with at least 5 points takes part, and one winner is picked from among the members of the team drawn. More prizes may be added.

Safety

• Everyone in a boat must wear a life jacket or other approved flotation device.
• The person driving the boat is responsible for keeping everything legal and safe.

How the day works

• Mandatory skippers' meeting at Hjelmås quay at 07.30. All team captains must attend. We go through the rules and safety there.
• Everyone sets out together from Hjelmås quay at 08.00. That is when the competition starts.
• After the start you choose where to fish, as long as you stay within the Osterfjord system.
• The app is open from 08.00 to 17.00. The last moment to register a catch is 16.59.
• Everyone must be back at Hjelmås quay by 17.00. Then the competition is over.
• If a team arrives late, it loses 1 point for every 5 minutes started. (17.01 = minus 1 point.)
• Locked marinas are only allowed for those with legal access. Local rules always apply.
• Fish farms are always off limits.

Tackle

• From a boat: only one rod in use at a time per person. You may have several rods rigged and ready, but fish with only one of them.
• From shore or jetty: up to two rods in use at a time per person.

Registration and measuring

• All catches are registered in FishComp, and the photo is taken in the app.
• Lay the fish on a measuring tape or ruler when you take the photo. With an end stop: snout at 0. Without an end stop: snout at the 10 cm mark.
• Deliberate cheating leads to disqualification. Misunderstandings and mistakes: the catch is struck or points are deducted — the jury decides.
• The jury consists of two from the organizing committee and two participants, chosen and presented at the course evening on Friday.

Scoring

• Each species scores once. A second fish of the same species earns nothing.
• The aim is to catch as many different species as possible.
• A fish must be above the minimum size for its species to count.
• All goby species count as one species.
• The team with the most points wins.

Longest and heaviest fish

• Longest fish: bring the fish to the quay for control measuring at 17.00.
• Heaviest fish: bring the fish to the quay for weighing at 17.00. All fish are weighed on the same scale.
• One and the same fish can only enter one of the two categories — longest or heaviest, not both.
• A fish that has been released cannot be measured or weighed at the quay.

Fish that do not count

• Protected species do not count and must be released — for example eel, halibut and blue ling.
• Undersized fish do not count. Legal minimum sizes always apply.
• Fish you are not keeping for food, and which handle release well, must be returned gently to the water.
• Fish that do not survive release must be dispatched straight away.

Here is the full list as it stands in FishComp — 94 species. The point value is fixed regardless of size, and each species scores once.
